Brandon Nix is a professional oboist and music educator whose career encompasses performance, private instruction, ensemble direction, and music education in the United States and internationally. A specialist in woodwinds, Brandon teaches oboe, clarinet, saxophone, and flute, as well as beginner piano, bringing professional performance experience and a comprehensive understanding of instrumental technique and musicianship to his students.

As a performing oboist, Brandon has served as Board President and Principal Oboist of the Denver Pops Orchestra, Principal Oboist with the Lakewood Symphony Orchestra and Empire Lyric Players, Principal Oboist with the Gold Coast Wind Ensemble, and Guest Principal Oboist with the Beijing International Chamber Orchestra. His performance experience also includes orchestral, chamber, opera, musical theater, ballroom, and other professional engagements. He has performed as a principal oboist in both orchestral and theatrical settings, giving his students the opportunity to learn from a musician with extensive real-world performance experience.

Brandon holds a Master of Music Education from Boston University, earned in 2019, and a Bachelor of Music Education from Florida State University, earned in 2014. He also holds a Florida Professional Teaching Certificate. His academic training, combined with years of classroom and private studio teaching, has given him a strong foundation in both instrumental performance and music pedagogy.

Throughout his teaching career, Brandon has worked with beginning, intermediate, and advanced students ranging from young children to adults. He has taught private lessons across multiple woodwind instruments, directed concert, symphonic, chamber, and jazz ensembles, prepared students for auditions and performances, served as an adjudicator for various music competitions, and developed individualized instruction based on each student’s musical goals and level of experience. His teaching experience includes international schools in Beijing, Guangzhou, and Mussoorie, India, as well as music programs throughout the United States.

Brandon’s teaching philosophy centers on developing a strong technical foundation while helping students understand the musical purpose behind what they are playing. Whether working with a first-time beginner, preparing a student for an Honor or All-State band audition, or refining the playing of a more advanced musician, he emphasizes tone, technique, musicianship, and independence. His goal is to give students the skills and understanding necessary to become confident musicians both inside and outside the lesson.
