Theory & Aural Skills Classes are available for ages 5 through adult. These classes are recommended to supplement private lessons. In Preparatory through Level 4, students participate in extra-musical activities such as solfege singing, ear training, rhythm games, and more! Pattern recognition and note reading exercises are also incorporated to strengthen note reading skills. The group setting is a fun way for students to learn music with their peers.

Levels 5 and above are for intermediate through advanced level students wanting more in-depth music theory and ear training. The classes follow the Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum and prepare students for examinations.

Composition Classes are open to students with at least one year of previous music instruction. Students learn the basics of music composition, work on writing their own pieces, and premiere their original works on the last day of class.

Classes are 50 minutes.

Private Theory and Composition Lessons are available for all ages and levels.

*Free for HMA students enrolled in Private Lessons. These classes are not available during the summer months of June and July.
